This article is to explain the proper way to update Quickbooks desktop software in multi-user environments when the software is housed on one machine vs multiple machines.
Before the upgrade starts:
- Verify how many machines will need the upgrade
- Is this a Marina Server?
- If so, you need to stop the Scribble Sync components for MGO and Scribble enterprise sync
- Is everyone out of quickbooks with software closed completely?
Once all has been identified and closed, begin the upgrade.
SERVER ENVIRONMENTS
All software must be on the same version. Take note at the top of the quickbooks window which version is installed (Retail/Professional/Contractor…etc)
Start with the server first, you can upgrade clients afterwards or during the server’s upgrade, but DO NOT start or connect to a company file until server is completed and has been opened and logged onto the file FIRST!
If updates occur during the day, CALL the customer and get connected to each machine and let them know not to connect to quickbooks until we tell them it is ok.
